Fantastic local restaurant! The food was incredibly good and typical Sri Lankan! the staff was also super lovely and attentive!! On request they do cooking classes which we definitely want to do if we come back to Ahangama!

I am a solo female traveller, I arrived at night time and wasn’t sure where to go, it was very close to my hotel… I was sooooo happy with this place! First the owner and her son welcomed me with a huge smile, I told them I just arrived and they gave me some advices. I had the chicken Kottu!!! Delicious!!! I will definitely go back there!!! You definitely need to visit this newly opened restaurant. The food is soooo good. The atmosphere is cozy and calm, and the staff is very friendly. Update: we have now travelled Sri Lanka for two weeks and this is still one of our best food experiences here. Would love to come back.

A brand new family run restaurant off the main road, La Cata is a must visit! Signage is good, so it is easy to find. When you walk in, it does feel like you’re walking into someone’s house. If you walk up the set of concrete stairs, however, you are greeted by a beautiful open air restaurant! The family will immediately greet you and will go above and beyond to make you comfortable. The menu has an excellent range, including many drink options. We had the ‘Buffet Style Sri Lankan Rice and Curry’ which included saffron rice, daal, eggplant curry, pumpkin curry, beetroot curry, a tabouli type salad, fried jackfruit balls, fried papadams and nuts served to the table. All for 1800 each! We also ordered some prawns and chicken curries on the side for an addition 600-800 each. All were super delicious, however, the vegetable curries and daal were the best! Would recommend this restaurant to anyone!

Very good food and experience overall. It was our first dining experience in Sri Lanka and all meals we tried were very good. Highly recommend the place, coconut roti delightful!

Everything we tried was incredibly delicious, fresh, and full of flavor. The service was fantastic. This lovely Sri Lankan family runs the place with so much love, and you can truly feel it in both the food and the atmosphere. Highly recommend to everyone a real gem that you shouldn’t miss!

This place is exceptional, we’ve been in Sri Lanka for a month and we are very into food (from local street food to the western spots) and this is definitely the best food we have had ! The kitchen is a family unit, all with smiling faces. I think the place is fairly new and unknown - please go and support them! It’s worth it. We went last night and are returning this evening!

Exceptional. We have been in Ahangama for a week now and La Cata was our first "this is what we've been looking for!" moment. Run by a lovely family, the setting is perfect - a peaceful and warm ambience, and the food is divine - lovingly prepared, and beautifully presented. Every bite was different - a real culinary treat. We are travel foodies, and this hit the mark in every way. Highly recommend!
